Band Story

Artist: Dar.Ra
Title: The Soul Hours
Label: Kusha Deep Records

The Soul Hours is a brand-new album released on Kusha Deep Records by artist Dar.Ra, currently making waves in the radio and film industries around the globe. Already described by some as "Brit Soul at its finest," the album has been licensed by the American TV network ABC for an upcoming movie and is slated for release through one of the largest music distributors in China in the coming months.

The singles "Fly 2 Nite" and "Start Again" have gained traction on UK independent radio over the past few months, steadily building the album’s profile.

Written by Dar.Ra over a ten-year period while living in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, the album has a well-traveled sound. This international influence is expressed in tracks like "Shadow of the Sun" and "Start Again." The concept behind the album centers on recurring themes such as breaking free from the expectations society places on us—from cradle to grave—and questioning why we continue to live lives that don’t bring us happiness.

Songs like "Pressure" and "Let Love Be Your Religion" lift listeners with soulful rhythms, while the lyrics deliver powerful underlying messages. Tracks like "Fearless" and "Red, White and Blue" pay tribute to troops serving in conflict zones. Though supportive, Dar.Ra also questions why humanity continues to resolve its differences through war—an outdated paradigm that benefits only those pulling the strings.

The album also includes tender moments, such as the beautiful ballad "Safe in Ur Arms," a passionate and well-arranged track featuring a string quartet, Spanish guitars, and a powerful vocal performance. The song tells a story of lovers separated, longing for reunion.

Dar.Ra’s musical background goes back to the 1990s when he was signed to Chrysalis/EMI and achieved a Top 40 hit with the band Taste of Paradise. He later scored a big dance hit with 21st Century Records as part of the act Bliss, featured on the hugely successful Havin' It in the UK series. His remix credits include work with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Tears for Fears, and Savage Garden. He also had a No. 1 dance track with Urban Harmonix called "The Pleasure Zone," featuring Rachel Brown, who had previously collaborated with Faithless and Groove Armada.

For The Soul Hours, Dar.Ra chose to set aside dancefloor production tricks in favor of a strictly live feel—every performer recorded their parts in a single take.

The album was recently featured on ABC TV in a film starring Hilary Duff, chosen as Album and Artist of the Week on Spain’s Heart FM, and even received praise from The Who’s Roger Daltrey.
