Trese

Band Story

T'rese is alluring... Even by the limited definition of the term "beautiful" the on-looker whose mind is set on the very narrow concept of 'pretty' would have to appraise her a number of times to draw a rational conclusion that would inevitably fail to meet the approval of the wide majority. So, to be precise, she is not merely attractive... she is charming! T'RESE's physique is magnificent, captivating and cute! She's a lady who knows precisely what she desires - and when necessary, she resorts to her overwhelmingly mesmerising charm to dictate the sort of response she expects. With her positive outlook on life she's always willing to make the necessary sacrifices to attain her ultimate goal. Genteel and softly spoken, T'rese is someone who, with an ever cheerful disposition, skilfully tackles every objective carefully?and quite cautiously too. She's an avid listener. She weighs every word uttered to her and replies calmly, with the uppermost degree of respect. Yet, she's by no means the kind of individual anyone can attempt to walk over. Theresa Theophile (that's her real name!), born in Roseau Dominica, now resides in London and whilst growing up on the beautiful Island in the Caribbean she listened to the likes of Sade, Tracy Chapman, Mary J Bilge Whitney Houston, Anita Barker, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown to name a few - some of the same superstars she's been compared to. T'rese's distinctive voice however makes her unique, something that is very uncommon in today's market. She's able to express herself without doing what everyone else is doing. I sensed that firm, dynamic yet quiet and cool strength of character in T'rese long before I was introduced to her. Her peering eyes unleashed a particular glow that seemed to linger for a spell too long to endure. I gazed at her shapely figure, and envisaged the attributes desirable for success. She smiled! And I suddenly discovered an attraction that seemed indescribably captivating. A splendid piece of work by producer Tony White, a multi instrumentalist who provided the music to Miss Theophile's (as she used to be known) promo set. After sending a copy of her demo to then Belgium-based company Pipedream Productions in 2003, T'rese cool sultry melodies hit the right note with managing director Mike Curtis which landed her a deal. The company then moved to Luton, England in 2004 and started the search for a backing band to support her. Within weeks T'rese had already achieved reasonable success considering she was barely known and had yet to release a record. Performing a number of gigs, including Luton Carnival in May 2004, radio and TV interviews followed with Chiltern FM, BBC County three, Luton FM and an appearance on ITV Anglia. Then came a sudden downturn due to management in getting the album started. T'rese grew frustrated but waited patiently. While waiting to record her debut with Pipedream Productions and Luton local girl band Sen-Su-elle, T'rese was heartbroken and devastated by the news of the sudden death of her Mum. She immediately flew to the Caribbean and while there received a voice message from her Managing Director just two days after her mum's burial stating that the company had ceased trading and her contract was terminated. Still grieving for her mum T'rese was disappointed, but that did not dampen her spirits. Instead she responded in a cool and collective manner - she said '"that's all right; I was expecting something like this." T'rese was also dealing with some painful issues within the same year and one wonders how she handled herself so well; in her exact words she said, " although I am a very sensitive person I am also a very strong individual and this is all because of my relationship with God - in him I find the strength." After disappointment with Pipedream Productions T'rese proceeded to do her part. On her arrival from the Caribbean in 2005, she had to make a decision as to whether to give up or forge ahead to fulfil her long term dream: "I thought to myself mum wouldn't want me to give up; so I am going to do this album for her, in remembrance of her." She contacted multi talented producer Tony white and said "this time we are going to do it differently" - (no more demos). She embarked on a full blown production with some talented musicians and they all put their hearts into making the album what it is. T'rese's music unveils a wealth of talent. The labour of a genuinely multi-talented singer-songwriter and entertainer, she has already been acclaimed for her talent in the likeness of top Chart-selling artist Sade. T'rese takes us to A World of My Own, her new recording on 1Life Records - she wrote, co-wrote and co-produced the majority of the tracks. It's soulful, uplifting and entertaining. With her smooth, silky vocals she kicks off with the infectious 'Our Love Is A Flame' and it's one of those songs that any three year old, grandma and grandpa will enjoy singing along to. There is the sexy 'You Are My Lover', a Spanish flavoured love song with an upbeat tempo. 'Crime Song' takes on social issue with hard-hitting lyrics and a poetic rap by Nomadic Poet. Another catchy number 'Do you Remember' has a banging upbeat tune with a little Latin, Caribbean & African flavour and soulful melody. T'rese demonstrates a mixture of musical influences - her natural, silky voice blends perfectly with this classic laid back Sade-like track 'You've Gotta Be Strong'. Listen once and this track will most certainly relax every part of your body and it's turning out to be one of many favourites. Other songs on the album address the complexity of male/female relationships and in the most convincing manner. T'RESE's versatility is certified in the sensuous/soulful masterpiece blended with a touch of lovers rock 'That's the Way My Lovin' Goes'. This new artist certainly has staying power
