Mad Solders

Band Story
Mad Solders was formed at the end of 2004 in Laitila, Finland, by Jarmo Peltonen (vocals and guitar) and Ari Tuominen (guitar, who left the band in 2010). Janne Ruohonen (bass and backing vocals) joined about a month later. Toni Hannila (drums) came into the band around three months later, in March 2005. Keyboards on studio tracks from 2007–2009 were played by J. Ahola.
Special thanks to Sean Griffin from Rauma City, who contributed vocals to the latest studio tracks No Man's Land and Shadows (2009).
All band members had previous experience playing in bands before joining Mad Solders. The idea of forming a band that played rock music with a twist of heavy metal had been on Jarmo’s mind for a long time. When he met up with Ari and they both owned guitars, they began jamming together. Since Jarmo and Janne already knew each other from their time living in Valkeakoski, Janne was the perfect choice for bass. The only missing piece was a drummer, who was found through Jarmo’s girlfriend, who worked with Toni.
The name Mad Solders comes from Jarmo’s famous banana guitar and was actually suggested by their longtime studio engineer Jykä Ahola. The band spent six weekends recording songs with hopes of compiling them into a full album.
Mad Solders plays a blend of classic rock 'n' roll infused with heavier metal elements. Janne had previously played in the legendary Finnish death metal band Rippikoulu, bringing a raw edge to his thundering bass playing. Toni also adds a metal edge with his drumming, while Jarmo and Ari’s rock backgrounds round out the sound. Lead guitarist Riku Kettunen brings additional power to the band’s guitar work, and Sean Griffin has appeared as a special guest vocalist.
Mad Solders has performed a number of gigs, including several standout shows with Sean Griffin, featuring both cover songs and original material—enough to say, we almost know what we're doing.
