Band Story

Tom Lenahan started The Clan, one of North America's first Celtic Rock bands, in 1986. After eight years, three albums and thousands of miles the band regrouped and changed their name to LENAHAN. Since then, they have released four more albums on Clandestine Celtic Records that have sold thousands of copies, and have continued to tour extensively, nationally and internationally.Formerly known as The Clan, the band changed its name to Lenahan in 1994. As Lenahan, the band has released three critically acclaimed albums on Clandestine Celtic RecordsTM that have sold thousands of copies nationally and internationally.

The band's debut CD, "LENAHAN" reflects Tom Lenahan's musical roots, growing up Irish American in the Blues city of Chicago. With its emphasis on the fusion of Celtic roots with rock & the blues, the album has been applauded by critics in the U.S. & abroad. Irish critic John O'Regan stated, "Celtic rock & rhythm & blues delivered with a fiery attack & a passionate flair...Lenahan is a killer; beg, steal or borrow it."

1998 saw the release of "CONTRARY MOTION," a spirited, sensitive album of traditional & original Irish music about which Celtic Beat critic Joanne Gagnon said, "Superb piping... dazzling instrumentals...absolutely gorgeous...never have I heard pipes played so gently and romantically."

The Clan - Early Lenahan

1999 heralded the release of the much anticipated new Celtic rock CD, "HOOLIGANS IN SUITS - LIVE IN THE U.K." Dirty Linen magazine music critic Dan Willging says of "Hooligans in Suits "...Lenahan defines the term Celtic rock...capitvating...intoxicating...Lenahan achieves a perfect balance. Simply put, Lenahan is Celtic rock."

In 2003 the band released "Brand New Bag", their finest and most adventurous album to date. Celtic Beat magazine says of this one, "masterfully arranged.......from fierce instrumentals to expressive vocals.....(Tom Lenahan's) piping abilities and repertiore are incredible".

Based in New York City, the four members of Lenahan, TOM - vocals, guitars, pipes, bodhran & whistles / CLARENCE - fiddle, guitars, mandolin / EAMON CRONIN - Drums, bodhran, percussion and BRENDAN O'GRADY - bass, enjoy life on the road & performing for diverse audiences of all ages. In addition, the band's Irish stepdancers, BRIDGET & MAGGIE, have won numerous national and international competitions, and are All-Ireland and North American Champions.
