Band Story

My name is Brian MacDonald, but my friends call me Bub. I’m the lead singer of The Epizootis.

I don’t like band bios. I read 17 band bios in preparation to write this one, and they all said the same thing, “…met in school, Danny was a graphic designer, blah, blah, blah.” At the risk of sounding like a schmuck, I must say that a real rockstar would never write his own bio… but real rockstars are extremely rare, aren’t they? It’s easy to use the illusory powers of the industry to make someone seem like a rockstar, but rare indeed is the real thing.

I’m not saying whether or not we're the real thing... that remains to be seen. But we wouldn’t give it away right off the bat with an amateur move like writing our own bio.

Here’s one of the big problems with rock-n-roll today: there’s no more mystique. It’s extinct. You put out one successful album, and pretty soon, VH1’s doing a biography on you. Britney is way too young for a biography, and so am I. Your mystique is like your virginity—once you give it away, you can’t get it back.

The number one rule of show business is this: well, nowadays it’s to be good-looking and have a digital vocal tuner in your studio. But once upon a time, when music was more mystical, the number one rule was: always leave ‘em wanting more…
